Burque Noir produces a brilliant multi-media experience of arts and entertainment as delivered by a vast array of Black artists and performers in Albuquerque, NM on one night. Ours is a gathering of intersectional community members who come to engage hearts, minds and senses in celebration and revelry for Black people.
1. the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage."through an awareness of intersectionality, we can better acknowledge and ground the differences among us"
Burque Noir celebrated its inaugural event at Las Puertas on March 26th, 2016 as a capstone event of Women & Creativity. Our second iteration will take place on Saturday, October 15th at South Broadway Cultural Center. Our first event brought twice as many people through the door as we were expecting and guests lingered hours past our intended time frame. Artists of various ages and disciplines approached us with questions about how to get involved with the next event. Business partners approached us offering sponsorships and in-kind services.
Burque Noir champions the expansive visual and performance art of black people. We produce a biannual multi-media showcase delivered by Black artists and performers in Albuquerque, NM. Burque Noir is a gathering of community members who come to engage hearts, minds and senses in celebration and revelry for Black culture.
Burque Noir was founded by a black woman, a white woman and a Chicano male who recognized the talent, beauty and power of the black artists in our city. Our collaboration has expanded to a diverse team of community organizers, artists and designers. Burque Noir is inclusive and dynamic, providing occasions to see and be seen, to embrace and be embraced by a diverse and affirming city.
